When disturbed it prefers to creep away rather than taking to the wing. Its diet consists of snails, worms and insects as well as some vegetable matter.
The African Crake (Crecopsis egregia, formerly Crex egregia) is a breeding species in Sub-Saharan Africa, except in the most arid regions. This bird is always found near water and under cover of waterside vegetation or marshland.
