Chihuahuas are very intelligent and should not be underestimated even though they are small in size and frame. The breed can be many solid colors or combinations of colors and their coat may be long or short. Chihuahua's are sassy little dogs and have become well known as "purse dogs".
The history of the Chihuahua is hidden in mystery, but popularly believed to be originated from the Fennec Fox. The Fox is a very small animal with big eyes and ears, which would explain the tiny frame, bright eyes and large ears of today's Chihuahua breed. Chihuahua's were used in religious ceremonies and commonly pets to the rich of society. Its name has taken from the Mexican State of Chihuahua, where the earliest breeds were found.
