There are presently 28 species. Leiocephalus is the only genus in the family Leiocephalidae.

The Leiocephalus is a family of lizards commonly known as Curly-tailed Lizards. They are widely distributed throughout the Caribbean, ranging from Cuba to Trinidad but are relatively unstudied.
