Because they are so fragile and easily injured they are not recommended for small kids. They do sport a variety of colors, and are either long coated or short (smooth) coated. As far house breaking - people seem to forget that paper training teaches a dog to eliminate in the house. So do pee pee or piddle pads. Chihuahuas can sometimes be trained to use a litter box. It has been my experience that you need start to train a chihuahua to eliminate outside and stick to that, even if it is raining or cold. With patience and consistency you will eventually have good results. And, if your chi has an accident it is a lot easier to clean up after than a pet elephant! All in all, these tiny canines are a joy and privilege to have as companions. For many people the first chihuahua is the start of a lifelong passion.
