The Irish Setter is a sporting breed and aristocratic bird dog. Irish Setters were originally red and white, while a solid red coloration was thought to be a mark of great sporting ability and quality. Known for their powerful movements and style, the Irish Setter became popular in Ireland and the British Isles around the 18th century. Irish Setters were originally bred from a mix of Irish Terriers, English Setters, Pointers, Spaniels, Irish Water Spaniel, and the Gordon Setter.
