The Pekingese is a small dog originating in China. Typically having a lion like look, they have a heavy front with light hindquarters and imply courage, confidence and dignity.

Surprisingly, the Pekingese is considerable heavy for its size when lifted due to its muscular and stocky body type. Generally they weigh around 14 pounds and are visually longer than they are tall. The Pekingese has a coat, which resembles the mane of a lion and is coarse in texture. Colors may vary, but a black mask or self-colored face is common with the Pekingese dog.
