9/22/2009 : Lilly's Seizures

Lilly is 10 years old and Saturday morning about 1:30 a.m. she had her first ever seizure. It was very scary but I managed to remain calm. Then early Sunday morning at 12:35 and 3:15 a.m., she had two more. The last one I didn't wait up in time and she was trying to walk and fell off the bed. She was still trying to get up and walk and I laid her down and talked softly to her and it took a long time before she came out of it. All of a sudden, she jumped up, shook her head, and went into the bathroom to get a drink of water. I called her vet and he told me to just keep doing what I was doing for her. Early this morning, I woke her up at 1:00 a.m. and let all the dogs out for a potty break. I thought maybe this would break the cycle. She went back to sleep and didn't have a seizure. She has been healthy all her life until this. Guess this is why it was such a shock.

Poor Lilly! I am sorry to hear about your seizures. I had a Poodle, Sister, who had seizures. If you keep having them, there are medications that can help. Mom always found it was best to keep her in a dark, quiet place, when she was having one. Tell your Mom to pet and soothe you, and talk to you. We also found that my Sister was usually thirsty afterward, so she might offer you a small amount of water, or a small piece of ice after you come out of the seizure. We also found that Fanci was very tired afterward. We hope this might help, some, and pray you don't have any more.

Lilly, I"m so sorry about your seizures. That must be very scary. I hope you don't have any more. I've heard that some dogs can take medicine and not have them anymore, but that's all I know about them.
