The Pomeranian is an animated dog that craves attention and the spotlight. Compact in size, this active toy breed dog is very alert with a fox like expression. The Pomeranian is commonly found in an assortment of colors, and pattern variations, but orange and red are most common.
The name Pomeranian originated in the region of Pomerania, which is now Germany and Poland. Their original weight was around 30 pounds, and they successfully served as sheepherders. In 1870, they became well known when the Kennel Club of England officially recognized them and in 1888, Queen Victoria brought a Pomeranian back to England from Florence, Italy and their popularity swelled.
